Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the activities of range personnel to ensure mission support through proper operations and maintenance of assigned systems and equipment. Employees in this classification receive direction from the Range Manager, within a framework of Company/Program policies and procedures. This job class supervises personnel and requires specialized technical knowledge and skills as well as organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
Trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned technical personnel, ensuring cross-training of employees as appropriate.
Assigns priorities and establishes schedules based upon mission requirements; ensuring that all tasks are accomplished without adverse mission impact.
Communicates with assigned staff as needed on company matters, program matters, and mission schedules/priorities.
Applies technical knowledge to help solve complex technical problems.
Develops and recommends procedures, controls, and/or systems (ISO standards) to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned areas of responsibility, coordinating with others to ensure consistency and compatibility.
Performs a variety of technical and/or specialized assignments and prepares reports as required.
Delegates tasks as appropriate.
Interprets and applies company/program policies and procedures, including Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. Enforces security and safety regulations and standards, and prohibits the performance of work under unsafe conditions.
Other Related Duties:
Provide technical direction and monitor the job performance of all Arcata employees under his/her charge and advise senior Arcata management of concerns or problems.
Participate in the candidate interview and selection process when job openings occur.
Perform other related duties as required by management to include supporting other work centers during surges. This may include cross training into other function areas to meet overall contract performance objectives.
Education: (or Equivalent Experience) Associates Degree automotive technology or completion of a formal automotive training program in an accredited commercial or military school.
Experience: At least one year of supervisory experience of mechanic shop.
At least six years of experience as vehicle mechanic. Experience with diagnosing modern computer operated controls in vehicles is a plus.
Diesel motor experience is a plus.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid California driver's license.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

Ability to travel as required by the company.
Ability to perform physical tasks including, but not limited to, moderate lifting and climbing.
